Chikara Matsumoto

Chikara Matsumoto was born in Tokyo in 1967. Chikara Matsumoto graduated from the Department of Graphic Design, Tama Art University, and lives and works in Tokyo as a painter/video(animation) artist.

He produces low-tech animation by using hand-drawn cells and video. Matsumoto's work explores the expressions of video through hand-drawn images. Music by organ-o-rounge adds a mysterious harmony to the work. Matsumoto often collaborates with other artists working in different genres, and his creative activity encompasses a wide range of venues; he produces shows at theatres, and projects his images at dance concerts. He plays an active part, particularly in the concerts of organ-o-rounge, as a VJ, and holds his own animation concerts. Lately, he has been exhibiting the original moving image equipment, "Emakimono Machine" series both in galleries and outdoors, and he has been actively leading workshops with children using the same machine at street malls, schools and hospitals.
