Tetsuya Karatsu

Tetsuya Karatsu uses characteristics of the medium, video to realize matters that would be difficult to realize otherwise. For instance, anybody can play a beautiful music only with his index fingers or can play the violin with a singular movement of the bow. The artist videotapes each musical code on piano played by index fingers and or on the violin by the bow and combine them according to the music score to create a beautiful music.
Karatsu was born in 1973. He received M.F.A from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His work has been shown in exhibitions including “Art Award Tokyo” (Gallery at Gyoko-dori underground corridor, Marunouchi Building Tokyo, 2007) and “INDEX #2~Life Styles~” (Art Project Room ARTZONE, Kyoto / Tokyo Wonder Site, Tokyo).
